In Loving Memory of John’s Grandfather “Pop”

Dearest Friends,

John Barnard—a humanitarian who has spent the past 25 years uplifting lives in Africa through his work with the Karamojong Urban Refugee Camp in Kampala, Uganda. There he established a sewing center for women in order for them to become economically self-sufficient. They produce clothing for Huruma Clothing Co. (Huruma is a name meaning compassion in Swahili), a company he started for this purpose. John continues his service to this population by providing skill-building education for the refugees. With a compassionate heart, John has adopted a child in the refugee camp, committing himself to provide a life filled with education and opportunity for this small boy. His outreach also extends to the Maasai in the Wilderness Conservation Trust at Campi Ya Kanzi, Chyulu Hills, Kenya, where he continues to assist in improving their healthcare.

John has now taken on a leadership role with Butterfly Effect Global and has become an avid supporter of the organization. With this same legacy of compassion, John dedicates a Blessing Well to Bheluyasahi Village in Odisha, India, honoring the love and guidance of his beloved Grandfather “Pop”.

Pop was more than a grandfather

—he was a father figure, guiding John’s early years with love, care, and wisdom. A self-made entrepreneur, Pop owned his own grocery store, working as the butcher while John’s grandmother was the cashier. After school, John would visit them, savoring a Coke, a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, and a superhero comic book in the back room—simple, cherished moments filled with warmth and love. These memories shaped John’s life with blessings beyond measure.

Today, in gratitude for Pop’s legacy of love, hard work, and devotion, John dedicates this Blessing Well to bring clean, life-giving water to Bheluyasahi Village in Odisha, India.

Through this Blessing Well, John’s spirit of service flows across continents, bringing clean, living water to a village that will no longer struggle for contaminated water but will thrive for generations to come.—bringing health, hope, and abundant blessings to all.

With love and reverence,
Rev. Dr. Lori McMacken
