🌍 The “Off the Ground” Campaign is Complete!
With absolute joy in my heart, I am delighted to share that our Off the Ground Campaign is complete. Ninety beds have been donated… actually, ninety-one.
For generations, the precious people in our leprosy colony have slept directly on the earth. During monsoon season, the rain seeps into their huts. They have endured nights of wet blankets, insects, rats, and sometimes snakes. Many suffer from open wounds, and sleeping on the ground makes healing nearly impossible. A simple bed is not “just a bed” — it is comfort, safety, dignity, and rest.
When I received photos of the medical mission, I kept noticing a small boy in picture after picture. He was always standing, observing and watching. I asked Thabir about him. He told me the boy is the only child living among the leper people — a son of the community. He didn’t have a bed.
We did not hesitate.
Bed #91 was donated for him.
Now, every single person in the colony, including this sweet child, is off the ground.
This is what love looks like in action.
A Camino Connection That Came Full Circle
Forty-five of these beds — half of the entire campaign — were donated by one extraordinary woman: Karen Johnson, whom I met years ago while walking the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile pilgrimage across Spain.
One cold, rainy day on the Camino, I prayed for someone to walk with—someone to lift my spirits and help distract me from the numb toes and endless gray skies. And then Karen appeared. She walked beside me, telling me stories of her solo travels across India — stories filled with courage, curiosity, and deep compassion for humanity.
I had no idea back then how those stories were planting seeds.
Today, I serve the heart of Odisha, India, through our now official 501(c)(3) nonprofit. And Karen, with that same compassionate spirit, heard the call to help again — this time, for the leprosy community whose need is great and urgent.
Her gift completed our campaign.
Her gift lifted bodies off the earth.
Her gift lifted spirits.
I am still amazed by how life weaves us together in perfect timing.
From the Ground, They Rise
This is what your donations do.
You lift people.
You restore dignity.
You change the story.
Thank you, Leprosy Bed Donors!
You are seen. You are appreciated. You are loved.
Your kindness will be remembered every night as they lie down in comfort and peace.
In November 2025, our food ration program continues, ensuring that every precious person in the leprosy colony receives the nourishment they need. They are unable to work due to the effects of leprosy, and these monthly food rations are not just meals — they are life, care, and dignity.
In the video below, Thabir interviews a mother who has lived with leprosy for 30 years. After the disease took hold, she was pushed out of her family circle and shunned by society. Her story is one of quiet strength, survival, and the deep human need to be seen and cared for.
This is the second month of our ongoing medical mission, and it has already proven to be deeply impactful. Each precious person in the leprosy colony is receiving curable antibiotics, along with attentive care for open wounds that require ongoing treatment and compassion.
During this visit, the doctors also cared for the little boy in the colony whose head was filled with lice. He was treated immediately and lovingly — because no child should suffer in silence.
This medical mission is restoring:
Dignity
Comfort
Healing
And the knowing that they are not forgotten
🦋 Thank you to every donor making this possible — your compassion is saving lives.
