π Unbelievable Stories from the Villages of Odisha
In the remote tribal villages of Odisha, India, life can change in an instant. With no medical facilities nearby, no transportation, and a language barrier between the villagers and local authorities, tragic, unforeseen incidents too often end in heartbreak.
But then thereβs Thabir β a man who rose from the very heart of these villages. Born into humble circumstances, he defied all odds to earn a college degree, only to return home to lift his people up.
When a call for help comes, no matter the hour or weather, Thabir jumps on his motorcycle and races through the rugged terrain to reach those in distress. During monsoon season, his work becomes nearly impossible β yet he never hesitates.
Most emergencies come from snake bites, where victims have only one precious hour to reach the hospital. Many are saved by Thabirβs swift actionβ¦ but sometimes, the venom reaches the brain before help can arrive. In the most heartbreaking cases, Thabir gently carries the body of the deceased on the back of his motorcycle β often in the pouring rain β returning them home so their families can say their final goodbyes.
βStrangers from a far away land heard our prayer and poured their love upon our villageβ
Friends and Family of Elin Evans
Just days ago, Thabir was called to rescue a woman in excruciating pain from a village an hour and a half away. With her husband holding her tightly, they made the long, perilous journey to the hospital. There, doctors discovered she was pregnant and performed an emergency cesarean. The baby was born jaundiced from the contaminated water the mother had been drinking. By grace, the mother survived β but her story is a reminder of the urgent need for clean water.
We will be drilling several Blessing Wells
in November once the ground dries. Though theyβve already been promised to other villages, I told Thabir that I believe with all my heart a new well will be donated β and that we will make sure her village receives one.
When a village receives a Blessing Well, it is not only blessed with clean, life-giving water β it also receives light. Each well includes a light to keep the villagers safe from wild animals at night. One of the greatest fears in the villages is the darkness that invites tigers, bears and snakes to roam nearby. When you donate a Blessing Well, you not only give the gift of life, you give the gift of safety, peace, and hope.
This holiday season, consider honoring your family or friends with a Blessing Well β just as Elin Evans did last December. Her gift brought joy to her family and friends and life to an entire village.
